Abstract-

To have an increased understanding of Borderline Personality Disorder previously known as EUPD. Client case studies and outcomes will bring the session to life allowing an understanding of what it is like for people to live with these symptoms. The session will cover a step-by-step guide for each phase of EMDR treatment, utilising clinical examples.

About the workshop host-

Kate Chartres is an EMDR Consultant who worked for many years within the field of Liaison Psychiatry, throughout which she worked within the hospital, accident and emergency and with outpatients with clients presenting following an episode of self-harm, or a suicide attempt. Kate now working in private practice continues to teach as an Honorary Senior Lecturer on the Liaison Mental Health module at London City University on working with this client group and delivers several skills-based sessions at Sunderland University including a skills-based session on working with people with emotional dysregulation and complex trauma. Within Kate’s independent practice she continues to work with a mix of clinical presentations including complex trauma and those with ‘emotional dysregulation’ for many of whom have been unable to access the right support within NHS services. Kate’s teaching style is bright and engaging, bringing things to life with clinical examples.

Aims/ Objectives-

1) To increase knowledge concerning the development of emotion dysregulation and the criteria that attracts the label of Borderline Personality Disorder Utilising a DBT informed approach.

2) To enhance comprehension of working with emotionally dysregulated individuals from diverse backgrounds.

3) To be clear on the importance of validation with this client group.

4) To understand how trauma can have an impact, including the trauma associated with the experience of accessing healthcare.

5) To apply a framework to formulate in preparation for EMDR that accounts for the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model.

7) To understand the practical applications of using EMDR for this client group, the importance of preparation and considerations relevant to processing/ desensitisation with such clients.

8) To recognise the importance of adherence to the EMDR protocol with this client group.

8) Kate will use clinical examples to bring the workshop to life.
